Japanese video game developer Capcom has announced that its Resident Evil series has crossed 100 million units sold globally. The franchise, which debuted in 1996 and fanned fans with its survival horror mechanics, has now become the first franchise for the company to reach this milestone. In its press release, Capcom stated that this content was made possible by its single content multiple use strategy, a sustained release schedule for new titles and remastering of old hits. Additionally, Capcom showed the trailer for their next game in the franchise, Resident Evil Village.
