Japanese gaming giant Nintendo on Thursday reported an uptick in sales and profit for nine months to December, upgrading its full-year profit forecast on strong demand for its popular Switch console. Net profit for April-December was up 16.4 percent to 196.4 billion ($ 1.8 billion) from a year earlier, with sales of JPY 1.0 trillion for a 2.5 percent period.
The Kyoto-based firm has revised its full-year forecasts, now forecasting net profit of 210 billion for the fiscal year to March, compared to its earlier estimate of JPY 210 billion.
But this left its annual sales forecast at JPY 1.25 trillion unchanged.
Sales of both its regular Switch platform and Switch Lite – a smaller, cheaper version – have continued to grow, with powerful titles including the Pokémon series, though analysts weigh the potential impact of the new coronovirus outbreak on production in China.
“Nintendo Switch Light Started in September … more Nintendo Switch Performed well without losing momentum, resulting in significant sales growth for the entire Nintendo Switch family, ”the company said in a statement.
The switch light changes to $ 199.99 in the United States, compared with the price of $ 299.99.
