MIUI will begin on June 12 – the latest version of Xiaomi’s Android user interface was officially unveiled on Tuesday 19 May. This brings new features and improvements to Xiaomi’s Mi and Redmi phones. Xiaomi stated in its blog post that privacy protection is at the core of the development of MIUI and MIUI 12. Users get a new UI design with “innovative system animations” and more. So, here are the top features present in MIUI 12:
Enforced Privacy Protection
With MIUI 12, users will be able to get better control over the permissions required for the apps according to Xiaomi blog post. Individual application permissions include a wide range of options such as some permissions “while using the application” and “notify” when an app is using another service, along with options already available. “When using the application” mode also includes allowing access to the camera, microphone, call history, contacts, calendar and storage. Also, location information and metadata can also be removed when sharing photos.
Design and Animation
Xiaomi stated that it refreshed the UI design for MIUI 12 and refreshed the system-wide animation. This app uses the Mi render engine to switch between the render smooth and each screen is made more “informative and sensible”. Xiaomi said, “When it is presented in graphics the data is more intuitive. Visualizations save time and make interaction with mobile devices more intuitive and efficient. The MIUI 12 also brings a flatter and more simplified interface and new navigation gestures. Additionally, the Super Wallpaper feature provides “stunning reconstructions of iconic planetary lands” using NASA’s official imagery.
MIUI improves multi-tasking by adding 12 floating windows. When navigating using full-screen gestures, floating windows for apps will help users easily move them, close them with gestures, or resize them. If you get a message on your phone doing something else, such as watching a video, the message can be opened in a temporary window, allowing you to pause the video and switch to the messaging app.
Ultra battery saver
The MIUI 12 states that Xiaomi is calling ultra-battery saver mode. As the name suggests, the ultra-battery saver mode will restrict features consuming more power without affecting calls, messages, and network connectivity. This will extend the standby time of the phone and reduce power consumption, giving you some extra battery life when the phone’s battery is low.
MIUI typically follows more iPhone-esque home screens with the absence of an app drawer. Now with MIUI 12, users will have the option to turn on the app drawer, which will blank their home screen and show all installed apps in one place. Applications can also be grouped automatically, making them easier to find. Xiaomi says that this app comes from the Poco Launcher present in the Drawer Poco smartphone.
MIUI 12 brings an enhanced dark mode that transforms the Kolpur palette into a darker theme for system backgrounds, system apps, and third-party apps. It also allows users to choose contrast to match ambient light. Xaomi says that dark mode reduces power consumption and reduces eye strain.
