Microsoft and Sony have started promoting about their next-gen gaming consoles, but so far, we haven’t seen anything that really blew us away. All that changed when Epic Games showcased their upcoming game engine – Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). The demo was featured on a PlayStation 5 developer kit. According to Epic, the goal of the next generation engine is to deliver photorealism on symmetry with CG (computer graphics) seen in films. It also introduced two new engines as part of the new engine, called NanoLite and Lumen, for dynamic global illumination for a high degree of geometric detailing and realistic lighting.

Nine minutes Demo Brian Caris, Technical Director of Graphics and Jerome Platko, Special Projects Art Director, are taking us through the technical aspects of the demo. Certainly the features of the headline are the two main technologies built into the Unreal Engine 5 which are nanite and lumen. Nenite is a virtualized micropolygon geometry that allows film-quality source art to be imported into the engine and can be extended in real time. In other words, there is no memory or polygon count constraint for any view, which in turn can allow a developer to use hundreds of millions or even billions of polygons to make texture objects highly detailed. To be seen

The lumen, on the other hand, is a lighting technology that allows objects to dynamically react to any light source and to change realistically when the light source changes. With this, developers do not have to use Lightmaps because everything happens in real time. The Unreal Engine 5 will continue to provide Ambition with the Chaos Physics Engine, Niagara VFX, Convection Reverb, and Epic.

Karis pauses the demo at some places to explain what’s really going on behind the scene and how Epic Was able to render such photorealistic graphics. However, the best part of the demo is towards the end, where you can actually see the scale of the world, all being presented in real-time Playstation 5. We’re guessing this is just a taste that will be capable of next-gen solace and honesty, we’re very excited.

The current Unreal Engine 4.25 already supports the upcoming Sony playstation 5 And Microsoft xbox series X Peace. Unreal Engine 5 will be out as a preview only early next year and will be fully released in late 2021, for the next generation as well as for current-gen consoles, PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices Support. Epic states that it is also designing forward-compatibility, so games built on Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) can be migrated to Unreal Engine 5 when ready. Fortnite, Built on UE4, will be available as the launch title for next-gen consoles and will be migrated to UE5 in mid-2021.

Epic announced the launch of its developers, Epic Online Services, which are free for all developers to include multiplayer services such as matchmaking, lobbies, achievements, leaderboards and accounts in their games. Epic built these for Fortnite and is now making them available for anyone to use through a multi-platform SDK. Developers will have the option to use these services with their games, opening their game to more than 350 million players and their 2.2 billion friend connections to Epic Games accounts.
