He may not be everyone’s cup of tea but Tesla CEO Elon Musk has quite a fan following. What he has done in electric cars with Tesla and in rockets with SpaceX have at times led to comparisons with Apple’s co-founder, the late Steve Jobs. One man, however, feels that these comparisons are strange is Bill Gates. The Microsoft co-founder shared a fierce rivalry — later turned into friendship — with Jobs and also has an opinion about Musk.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Gates was asked what he thought of the comparisons between Jobs and Musk. “If you know people personally, that kind of gross oversimplification seems strange,” Gates said in the interview. Gates further explained the differences between the two men and how they work. “Elon’s more of a hands-on engineer. Steve was a genius at design and picking people and marketing,” Gates said. “You wouldn’t walk into a room and confuse them with each other,” he added.
Gates and Musk aren’t really the best of ‘friends’.
Earlier last month, Gates in a blog said that electric trucks aren’t a long-term solution. To this Musk responded by saying that Gates had “no clue” about electric trucks. Gates was also critical of Musk’s opinion on Covid-19 and the vaccines that are being developed. The Tesla CEO — around April — said that the stay at home restrictions in California were “fascist” in nature.
Gates was asked about Musk’s comments and earlier this year he said, “Elon’s positioning is to maintain a high level of outrageous comments. He’s not much involved in vaccines. He makes a great electric car. And his rockets work well. So, he’s allowed to say these things. I hope that he doesn’t confuse areas he’s not involved in too much,” Gates said in an interview to CNBC.
